I've been watching a bit of the Fani Willis "disqualification hearing" and several things have become obvious, at least to me:
- What a waste of time. The alleged benefits Willis derived from hiring Wade are so trivial that even I would probably not consider them perks. One of their cruises cost about $2K per head and their trip to Napa Valley seems to have cost about $1K each. These people should try living in Sydney.
- Willis, I presume, earns around $100K/year and has been working as a lawyer for more than 20 years. The idea that she needs a scam to fund a $2K cruise is laughable.
- "All trials should be televised so the public can be fully informed." Whoever said that hasn't read any of the YT comments on the various clips of this hearing. The lesson there is that people have already decided what they want to believe and will see any random piece of information as proof of their beliefs.
- The judge in this hearing knows that the Trump side will appeal any ruling in order to delay the case. He should have called the whole thing off already but he is desperate not to give Trump any grounds to appeal. This is an unusual form of the two-tiered justice system. Just like SCOTUS hearing the appeal on Trump's absolute immunity. Nobody who can even spell "law" would think there is any issue needing to be clarified in the DC Appeals Court ruling. Do they seriously think they will find some examples of where a POTUS can just kill people at will and not be prosecuted?
- The US system of government is way too dependent on courts. In this case, if a public official has initiated some scam to misappropriate public funds wouldn't that be a crime? If so, has anyone reported it to the police? If not, why are we having the trial before anybody has even been charged?
